Bad and sad news for Gujarat Congress are just not stopping. Congress Member of Parliament elected from north Gujarat’s Banaskantha seat passed away today morning in Ahmedabad’s private hospital. He was admitted here for couple of week after facing brain stroke when he was returning from a wedding function.

Born on 1 January 1963 in Sirohi, Rajasthan, Mukesh Gadhvi was son of Congress leader Bhairavdanji Gadhvi. He was member of Gujarat legislative assembly for three terms. In 2009 he won Lok Sabha election on Banaskantha seat. He was member, Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas, and member, Consultative Committee on Finance.

Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi in his tweet said: Sad to know about demise of Banaskantha MP Shri Mukesh Gadhvi. My condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace.

Even in Modi decade, Mukesh Gadhvi was successful to ensure Congress’s victory in District Panchayat body and Lok Sabha. Even in the assembly elections, major seats of Banaskantha district stayed with Congress, and Gadhvi’s role was instrumental in that.

With Gadhvi’s death Gujarat will witness by-polls of two Lok Sabha seats in next few months. One Porbandar seat is vacant after Vitthal Radadia’s resignation.

The House also mourned the loss of lives in a major fire that broke out in a market in Kolkata on Wednesday.

Members observed silence for a while as a mark of respect to the memory of the departed.
