Gujarat Congress was absent in the house when an amendment bill on professional and technical educational institutes was tabled and passed today.
However in a statement issued in evening, state Congress spokesperson Shri Manish Doshi has criticized the bill in strong words.
“The bill suggests that five percent seats in private technical education institutes will be filled by management. Gujarati students will have lesser chances of getting admission in good colleges, and donation system will get boost,” Doshi said.
“Even now there’s a provision to accommodate students from outside Gujarat on vacant seats after admission process for Gujarat students is over, so then why the government is now making provision of ensuring five percent seats for students from outside Gujarat from day one,” he added.
Doshi said that the state government should actually take care of the quality of education, but instead of that it seems it is just worried about private college owners.
“Result of Gujarat Technical University stays just around 24 to 34%. Out of total 42 government engineering colleges, only 8 have permanent principal. Vacancies of more than 60% professors are unfilled. More than 766 vacancies of class-three employees are unfilled. Even after three months of exams, Gujarat Technological University is unable to announce results. In private colleges they charge Rs 55,000 to 75,000 annual fees, but there’s no check on quality of education.
