SMC approves more clean energy projects

Surat Municipal Corporation(SMC) on Monday approved Rs 54 crore to set up wind and solar power plants. The approval was granted in a meeting of Light and fire committee of SMC.
The SMC will set up wind farms at Jamnagar district’s Bhanvad and add further wind mills to existing wind farm at Porbandar district’s Adodar. The existing wind farm at Adodar has generated 18.28 MW power by the end of February this year with 29.88 % capacity utilization factor. Bhanwad plant will produce 8.4 MW electricity.
At present, five clean energy projects of SMC produce 22 percent of SMC’s total power requirement.
The committee has also approved Rs 7.31 crore for solar power generation within the city. According to the plan, 750 KW solar power will be generated. The contract has been given with condition of 10 years of maintenance.
