Ahmedabad, 2 July 2013
The results of panchayat by-polls are out. Out of total 19 taluka panchayat seats(in 12 districts) that went to by-polls, BJP has won 12 seats out of 18. In previous elections, BJP had won only 4 seats of same 19. Thus party has progressed by adding 8 new seats.
BJP has won all 3 district panchayat seat by-polls(in Sabarkantha, Mehsana,Porbandar districts). In previous elections, party could win only 1 seat out of same 3. Thus, even on this front, party has added 2 more seats.
Victory of BJP is eye-catching in some pockets. Say for example, the party has been victorious on Champawadi taluka panchayat seat in Vyara taluka by margin of 620 votes. The seat was with Congress earlier and has 70% converted Christian voters. By winning a taluka Panchayat seat, BJP has now got clear majority in Sutrapada Taluka panchayat.
State BJP spokesperson and senior leader Shri IK Jadeja welcomed the results.
Resounding victory for BJP in Zila Panchayat & Taluka Panchayat elections across Gujarat. I congratulate our Karyakartas for their hard work
