Modi attends BJP parliamentary board meeting in Delhi

New Delhi, 4 July, 2013

Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi and former Deputy Prime Minister Shri LK Advani are among those attending BJP’s highest decision body Parliamentary board meeting in Delhi today. The meeting is chaired by party president Rajnath Singh.

A meeting of the BJP’s parliamentary board – a group of 12 top leaders who make all the crucial decisions in the party – is expected to discuss election strategy for the state elections this year, and parliament election next year. According to a news report from Delhi, the board is likely to give broad approval to Campaign Committee Chief Narendra Modi’s campaign strategy so that he can start work on it. The board’s sanction will mean that Mr Modi will not have to come back to it for a sign-off every time he launches a new campaign initiative.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Shri Ananth Kumar said that the Parliamentary Board expressed condolence over the loss of life in Uttarakhand and expressed concern over the manner in which relief work is going on under the state Government. Shri Kumar announced aid of Rs. 5 lakh from the BJP to the army and ITBP personnel who lost their lives in the unfortunate copter crash in Uttarakhand. He said that on 16th July Prarthna Sabhas will be held at the District and Tehsil level to express support with the people of Uttarakhand.

On behalf of the Parliamentary Board, Shri Ananth Kumar pointed that the BJP is opposed to the ordinance route vis-à-vis the food security bill. The hidden agenda behind this manner was questioned.

Shri Kumar shared that the Parliamentary Board and meeting of other Mahamantris discussed preparations for the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections and Lok Sabha elections in great detail. The misuse of the CBI against political opponents was discussed by the Parliamentary Board. The Board would hold another meeting on 8th July, Shri Kumar said.
