Vadodara, 13 July 2013
GAIL Gas Limited(GGL) and Vadodara Municipal Corporation(VMC) today signed share holding agreement for expanding the gas distribution network in Vadodara city. GGL CEO J.Vasan and VMC Commissioner Manish Bharadwaj signed an agreement. On this occasion, minister Saurabh Patel asked the company and VMC to double the number of CNG stations in Vadodara in two years. He also asked to provide gas connection through pipeline to all remaining citizens in two years instead of prescribed period of four years in agreement.
It should be noted that Vadodara was the first city in India to provide cooking gas connections to houses in year 1972. But due to some limitations, many areas couldn’t get gas connections. Today’s development makes a way for supply of cooking gas to citizens through pipe line.
Speaking on the occasion GGL’s marketing director Shri Prabhatsinh said that GAIL had started its work from same city. Within four years, Vadodara will have double number of cooking gas connections, and double number of vehicles will be supplied gas. At present Vadodara has 78,000 cooking gas connections and capacity to provide CNG to 15,000 vehicles. To complete this target, Rs. 200 crore shall be spent in a span of four years. This includes steel pipe line ring lane work, 50 km new steel pipe line etc tasks. Vadodara needs 22 CNG pumps, but at present there are only 9 pumps. City’s east and South East areas need to be covered under gas greed.
Speaking on this occasion minister Saurabh Patel said that Gujarat provides more gas to urban and rural areas than any other state. If Gujarat was given permission for expansion of its pipe line network timely, today all cities of Gujarat could get gas. Gujarat has given 12 lakh gas connections. In entire country, highest number(550) of villages are getting gas in Gujarat.
Mayor Shri Bharatbhai Shah said that VMC will start inviting applications for new connections around Diwali.
