The Supreme Court bench headed by outgoing Chief Justice Altamas Kabir today rejected Gujarat government’s curative petition in Lokayukta appointment case.

The state govt had challenged ‘unilateral’ appointment of state Lokayukta by present Governor who is a former Congress minister.

The bench headed by Chief Justice Altamas Kabir had Justice P Sathasivam, G S Singhvi, B S Chauhan and F M Ibrahim Kalifulla as other members. Today was the last day of Chief Justice Altamas Kabir’s tenure. Soon after the verdict he retired.

While Congress’s reaction to this development is predictable and repeat, what’s important is, how Gujarat govt, and Justice RA Mehta react to this fresh development and act upon now.
