Gandhinagar, 21 August 2013

Union Rural development minister Jairam Ramesh in a letter to Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi expressed surprise at the fact that the centre has not received any proposal from Gujarat for Indira Awas Yojana for BJP householders in 2013/14.

Jairam Ramesh’s letter addressed to Narendra Modi(dated August 20th, 2013) was today circulated by Gujarat Congress to media.

“I am writing to express my surprise at the fact that we have yet to receive any proopsal from Gujarat for Indira Awas Yojana(IAY) for BJP householders in 2013/14. In 2012/13, the Centre had sanctioned Rs. 460 crore for IAY in Gujarat,” Ramesh told Modi in a letter.

“As you know from 2013/14 the unit cost for IAY houses has been raised to Rs. 70,000 from Rs. 45,000 in normal areas and to Rs. 75,000 from Rs, 48,500 in special areas. 75% of the IAY support is from the Central Government and 25% from the State Government,” he further said in his letter.

“The initial target for Gujarat for 2013/14 is 1,07,880 houses. I would request you to kindly instruct your officers to ensure that the proposals for 2013/14 are submitted at the earliest. I might add here that other than Punjab, Gujarat is the only State for which proposals have yet to be received,” Jairam told Modi in a letter.
