Ahmedabad, 22 August 2013
Founder of Gujarat Parivartan Party(GPP) Gordhan Zadafia who was minister of state for Home in Gujarat during year 2002 riots has opposed government decision to downgrade his security from ‘Z’ category to ‘Y’ category.
Addressing a press conference in Ahmedabad today Shri Zadafia alleged that by downgrading his security he is being made a soft target.
He said the Home ministry removed two-two persons from his house and security vehicle without informing him in July. Reacting to this he wrote letters to Chief Minister and state and central officials in July and requested to continue ‘Z’ category protection cover. However on 20th August, his escort vehicle has also been withdrawn.
Zadafia said he deserves ‘Z’ category security cover not just because of year 2002 riots, but also because he is challenging the state government on number of issues, he tours across the state as General Secretary of a political party, and number of court cases of year 2002 are still going on.
He said both he and Modi were provided upgraded security cover after year 2002 Godhra riots. While CM’s security has been further upgraded to Z++, his security is downgraded.
Zadafia in his letter to the Chief Minister and others has given an example of another former minister of state for Home Shri Haren Pandya who had wished to have no security and was killed on route to Morning walk.
