Narmada dam is overflowing now for last almost 40 days. The dam witnessed highest overflow in its history twice during this period, thanks to heavy rain in upstream areas of Madhya Pradesh and huge water release from Omkareshwar dam.
In such situation, the dam site has suffered some damages.
A huge garden developed in recent years and known as ‘view point one’ has suffered serious damages. Heavy force of water washed away major part of this garden which is located exactly opposite the dam. Popular ‘view point’ has been closed for the visitors at present. Food court has been shut down, and barricade has been set up. Fencing of ‘view point one’, toilet blocks and water tank are also washed away.
Local MLA Shabdasharan Tadvi, Tourism department’s Superintendent Engineer HR Jaravya rushed to the site to review the situation, and found that some part of ‘view point two’ also was damaged and washed away.
A photo gallery set up by Gujarat Tourism Corporation for visitors, and a 20 ft replica of ‘Statue of unity’ featuring Sardar Patel have also suffered major damage.
