Ahmedabad, 6 September 2013
At 11.15 am, Gujarat Congress’s bandh call has received some success at a few small centers where Congress MLAs are elected. The areas of tribal Tapi district with high presence of Christian missionaries have reacted well to bandh call. Karjan, Patan, Limbdi, Dehgam, Porbandar, Viramgam are some other centres where bandh call has received response before noon. At many places Muslims are observing bandh, but if bandh call fail to get response in other areas, Muslims are likely to reopen their businesses in the afternoon. At many places, BJP workers were seen in the markets ensuring safety to shop keepers. Most of the active Congress groups are detained or arrested in the morning itself while attempting shut down. If Congress has not arranged back-up groups for the period of afternoon and evening, the excitement of strike call is over for now.
