Rewari, 15 September 2013

It was a one hour long speech delivered to over two lakh people gathered at the venue(against expected presence of two lakh), and lakhs of others watching it live on various news channels. As many as 50,000 ex army men including ex army chief VK Singh and Olympic medalist Rajyawardhan Singh Rathore attended the rally. Some youths were seen climbing on poles to have a glimpse of Modi. Like every other recent rally, here too other speakers had to cut short their speech to make a way for Modi on public demand.

As expected, Modi covered it all in his speech, be it the issues with Pakistan and China, or welfare of ex-army men or failure of present government in centre.

Modi started his speech by congratulating Indian scientists for their successful test of Agni-5 missiles. He greeted ex-army men present there by leaving podium for a while and moving on the stage. Referring to his anointment as BJP’s Prime ministerial candidate, Shri Modi said that he was feeling happier here at the meeting place than on the occasion of his announcement as PM candidate. Modi recalled his childhood days when he went to post office for the first time to deposit Rs. 2 for prospectus of Balachadi sainki school in Jamnagar district. He planned to join the army. When he asked for money to buy ticket to Jamnagar, his father refused and his dream was broken. Modi didn’t fail to mention that present Haryana Chief Minister Hooda was once student of Jamnagar sainik school, and tasted enough salt of Gujarat during that period.

Modi recalled another incident of childhood when he was in class 6-7th and he touched feet and offered tea and snacks to soldiers passing through the Mehsana railway station.

He recalled his visits to cantonments after 1995 when he was appointed party in-charge of Haryana state. Modi described recent announcement of his PM canidature and said that it there’s some divine indication that his first rally after the announcement happened in Haryana.

Modi recalled Dayananda Saraswati’s connection to Haryana and also mentioned that Morarji Desai was lodged in a jail in Haryana during emergency.

Modi recalled how he worked with Devi Lal ji and Bansi Lal ji, and how he attended rally in Haryana with Atalji. Modi said Shri Krishna came to Dwarka but he shared strong link with Kurukshetra.

Speaking about the large number of people in rally, Shri Modi said this was a call for change from Haryana.

Modi said the same toughness with which our soldiers deal with enemy nations they deal with tragedy with great compassion. He recalled the work done by the army during the 2001 earthquake and recent Uttarakhand tragedy.

Modi then shifted gear and started speaking about harder issues. He said while the country was praising the work of our soldiers, on the other hand Pakistan was killing them, and look at the misfortune that the Defense minister said people dressed in Pakistan army uniform did the job. Imagine how soldiers would feel!

He said Delhi was not bothered. For the such events keep happening for the. A minister said people are in army to die, what could be worse than this?

Modi said when he gets chance to celebrate Diwali, he goes to the borders. Speaking about recently opened drinking water pipeline in Rann of Kutch, Shri Modi said that for last many years drinking water was supplied to army jawans deployed on border through camels, but we built a pipeline. This could happen not due to budget or technology, but due to the respect we have for soldiers. Modi also spoke about recently opened war memorial at Dharamshala border post in Rann of Kutch. He asked countrymen to visit it.

Modi pointed out that the crisis being faced on the borders are not because of weakness of our army. The issue is not about the border, but about Delhi, and that’s why we will need to find the answers from Delhi only.

He said the nation has lost more soldiers due to terror than due to war. UNO may be proud about the fact that there’s no more world war, but we just can’t be happy just because of this. The nature of war has changed now. More than war, we are bring troubled by proxy wars like terrorism and maoism.

Modi remembered Atalji and Advaniji’s NDA government. He said earlier the topic of debate was ‘Kashmir belongs to whom’ but it was Atalji who changed the topic and got the world to discuss terrorism.

Modi said there can not be selective treatment to terrorism. It is the death knell of humanity.

Modi’s most interesting talk was about Pakistan. He said democratically elected government has taken over in Pakistan. It was expected they will do something positive, but see what happened recently on borders. If we have to fight wars, they must be against poverty, lack of education and blind belief. For last sixty years, the bombs and guns have not done any good to Pakistan. For ten years, if Pakistan works towards not making the land a home for terror, see what happens then. It will help youths, and the poor and nation will progress in ten years more than last sixty years.

Modi said cross border terror will neither help India, Pakistan or Bangladesh. He said birth of Pakistan could be on anti-India line, but existence and development of Pakistan can not take place on anti-India line. From the land of Mahatma let us give a message of peace to the world, he said.

Modi said, vote bank politics has reached a new lows. Society is being divided. Those who play vote bank politics and divide nation in the name of secularism should see real secularism in army. Modi criticized attempts of religion wise counting of jawans through Sachchar committee. He described this as a sin. He congratulated the army leaders who said that they will not let this happen. Modi asked jawans not to forgive those who tried to divide milk also.

Modi expressed concern over youngsters not getting drawn to army.

Modi raised the issue of one rank one pension. He demanded white papr on one rank one pension issue from the central government. He said if Atalji govt was reelected in 2004, Atalji would have found the way.

Modi stressed on need to utilize the strength of army and army men. He said army men interested in sports should be specially trained. He spoke about how ex-servicemen were recruited by Gujarat govt to stop power theft.

When Modi said Delhi is not interested in army welfare but in next tender, people reacted to it with cheer. Modi spoke about need for indigenous defense production. He said India must dream to sell arms to the world.

Modi also spoke about importance of voters registration.
