Ahmedabad, 18 September 2013
The Gujarat government has sought upgraded secutity cover to Chief Minister and BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi during his election campaign outside the state due to threats during election rallies.
According to Additional Chief Secretary (Home) SK Nanda, Modi’s security cover outside Gujarat is not at par with what he gets when he is in Gujarat.
In 2007 when LK Advani was declared BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, his security cover was upgraded. The second ring of his security which was earlier handled by local police was replaced with specially trained CRPF commandos. The local police was pushed to third ring.
Modi currently has ‘Z++’ security cover by the NSG. He was anointed as BJP’s prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections last week. He has been on the hit list of all major terror groups active.
