80 km area added to Jamnagar Municipal Corporation limit

Jamnagar, 11 October 2013

The limit of Jamnagar Municipal Corporation(JMC) has been expanded. The state government has given approval to JMC’s four years old proposal for limit expansion. The limit of JMC which was 42 sq km earlier is now 122 sq km.

The JMC had passed a resolution in year 2009 in this regard and forwarded it to the Urban development department of the state government. Jamnagar city’s limit in the past was 34 sq km which was later expanded to 42 km and the proposal in 2009 was about expansion upto 128 km. However the state government while giving approval to expansion excluded 6.22 km area of Bedi, and issued notification of approval to 121.80 sq km limit.

The government has given approval on the basis of survey numbers, therefore it is difficult to exactly say how many villages are to be impacted.
However it is understood that around 19 villages including Dhudhan, Shekhpadh, Mokhana, Theba, Khimrana, Dared, Chela, Changa around Jamnagar now become part of the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation area now. It has to be mentioned that 16 villages including Vibhapar had made representation earlier that they don’t want to become part of the JMC. However while taking the decision, the state government has not considered their wish.

The new decision has been largely welcomed by people. Jamnagar has no ring road at present. It is believed that the latest decision on expanding of limits will make a way for planning stage of ring road.
