Bharuch, 11 October 2013
In its history, the Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam is overflowing for the first time in the month of October. The dam is overflowing by 5 cm height due to extra water released from upstream area.
Sardar Sarovar dam has already broken several records this year during monsoon. The dam saw record-breaking 55 days overflow this monsoon between 18 July and 13 September.
On 24 August, the water level was on record-breaking height of 131.8 meter. The dam again started overflowing on 22 September at height of 121.92 meter. This round of overflow continued for 11 days.
Thanks to frequent and longer overflows, power generation has been highest in this season at the dam site.
