Ahmedabad, 12 October 2013
Pre-bid meet for privatization of Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport will take place on October 17 in New Delhi. The Airport Authority of India working under the central government has floated a global tended for privatization of Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Guwahati, Lucknow and Jodhpur airports on Public Private Partnership(PPP) model. The last date for the sale of tender is October 24. GVK, GMR, Toyota Infrastructure India Pvt Ltd etc are some of the companies taking interest in the process.
Meanwhile in a 12-page letter, Airport Authority Employees’ Union(AAEU) said, “why is the government initiating action for privatization when AAI has invested more than Rs. 5,000 crores of tax payers’ money in the modernization? After modernization, calling for bidding process is a brutal attack on AAI, pushing it into financial distress situation.”
