CBI questions Amit Shah for four hours

Ahmedabad, 13 October 2013

BJP leader and former Gujarat home minister Amit Shah was questioned on Saturday for four hours by the CBI in connection with the 2004 Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case.

The agency said it may call him again for questioning.

CBI functions under union Home Ministry. While Congress party is in power in centre, Amit Shah belongs to main political party BJP. Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, Shah has been assigned a job of party’s Uttar Pradesh state incharge. Shah is actively touring Uttar Pradesh for last few weeks and reviving the party.

Jailed IPS officer D G Vanzara, who is an accused in the case, had written a resignation letter recently in which he claimed that the Gujarat government had been “inspiring, guiding and monitoring” every police action from “very close quarters”. Vanzara’s letter was written in profound English, and it is yet not clear how sitting in jail, his computer typed letter with professional drafting came in public.

The CBI which works under Congress-led UPA government said it would examine Shah’s statement before filing a supplementary chargesheet.

The Supreme Court has early this year called CBI as ‘his masters voice’ and ‘caged parrot’.

BJP President Rajnath Singh has in Chennai rally openly said that if a person who sits with Narendra Modi is unfairly trapped by CBI on Congress-led UPA government’s order, BJP will agitate strongly against it.
