Gujarat has redefined ‘pro-people development’ under the visionary leadership of Narendra Modi: L.K. Advani

Ahmedabad, Wednesday:

Former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani and sitting MP from Gandhinagar today dedicated the Institute of Infrastructure Technology Research and Management (IITRAM) University in the comparatively less-developed eastern Ahmedabad and two Riverfront Parks on both the banks of River Sabarmati.

While the new specialized university created under an Act of the State Assembly is taking shape on five acres of land, the university building on 19,606 sq m plot is being constructed at a cost of Rs.70-crore. The combined cost of two modern riverfront parks is Rs.18.46-crore.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who was especially present on the occasion, said the newly created IITRAM University is Gujarat’s befitting answer to the Central Government’s arm-twisting tactics to suppress the voice of six-crore Gujaratis.

Mr. Modi said that every nation has to create a spacefor itself, and create an impression in this competitive world. India had its bright period for 1,800 years, dissipated during the following 800 years of colonial rule. India has to regain its glory in the 21st Century. In this new world order, the power of knowledge has established its supremacy over military power. The world understands only language, the language of might and capability, he said.

Talking about the importance of infrastructure in the modern world and setting up of IITRAM, he said the bulk of investment in the past has been in the private sector. It is projected to increase from Rs.9-lakh-crore during Tenth Five Year Plan to Rs.50-lakh-crore during Twelfth Plan. The number of universities in the state has increased from 11 to 42 and the number of seats in engineering degree and diploma courses from 13,000 to 1.45-lakh during the last decade. There is need for skilled manpower, to meet urbanization.

Mr. Modi recalled that the relevant Bill for this new university was passed by the State Assembly in February 2012 but the Governor sent it back with objections to finally give assent in March 2013, delaying the process by a year.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Advani said that lately Gujarat has redefined ‘pro-people development’ under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Narendra Modi, having laid the foundation to take the new generation to a world class future. He said that the Centre had for long neglected education, while Atal Vajpayee Government had taken corrective steps in the nation’s interest.

Earlier, IITRAM Chairman Sudhir Mehta, who is Chairman of Torrent Group of Industries, gave details of the new university.

Those present on the occasion included Roads & Building and Revenue Minister Anandiben Patel, Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasma, Ministers of State Pradeepsinh Jadeja and Vasuben Trivedi, MPs Harin Patak and Kirit Solanki, MLAs of Ahmedabad, Mayor Minakshiben Patel, Corporators, Principal Education Secretary Anand Mohan Tiwari, Commissioner Jayanti Ravi and Municipal Commissioner Mahapatro, among others.
