Surat, 23 October 2013
BJP is likely to decide the candidate for Surat(West) seat after Diwali season. The last date of filing nomination to contest election on this seat is 16 November. Diwali is on 3 November.
Surat(West) is traditionally a BJP seat, and there’s no doubt about BJP’s victory here. The seat is vacant after sudden death of senior leader Kishor Vankawala.
To win the seat with record margin, BJP has handed over responsibility of each of 200 booths to one Councillor.
Surat(West) is urban seat and there are hardly any caste calculations effective here, therefore the party is free to choose any candidate, even an outsider. Local Jain community is lobbying for a ticket, but just through statements and small meetings.
