Ahmedabad, 22 November 2013
The city police commissioner has denied clearance to Pakistani singer Atif Aslam’s music event at Sardar Patel stadium due to security reasons. Thus the music event stays canceled as of now. Any change in police commissioner’s decision is only possible if organizers move to court today itself and get decision in their favor. However the organizers are not in mood to go to court.
The organizers had booked Sardar Patel sadium for concert of Sonu Nigam concert. However later they changed the singer and replaced Sonu Nigam with Pakistani singer Atif Aslam. The stadium is owned by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation(AMC). Vishwa Hindu Parishad had requested AMC to cancel permission to hold the event in its stadium, however AMC was of opinion that it had just given the stadium on rent and it was actually the Police Commissioner’s jurisdiction to give or to deny the permission to hold the event.
Three days ahead of Atif Aslam’s concert, a small group of Bajrang dal workers had organized protest programme outside the stadium. They burnt banner of the event. Police had detained 19 Bajrang Dal workers.
Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad oppose Aslam’s concert in connection with Pakistan’s terror activities against India.
According to Vishwa Hindu Parishad(VHP) city unit president Bachubhai Ladva, Atif Aslam is friend of India’s most wanted criminal Dawood Ibrahim. Ladva had nothing to support this claim.
Atif Aslam is popular Pakistani singer who has given voice to some of the most popular Bollywood songs in recent past. His concert was earlier organized on 18 November 2011 in Ahmedabad.
