Ahmedabad, 3 January 2014

Former Chief Justice of India, Altamas Kabir is believed to have been approached by the government to head an inquiry commission which is to probe alleged snoopings.

The panel, which got the Cabinet approval, last week, is to submit its report within three months. The panel will also be looking into similar cases of alleged interception of phone calls of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and access of call detail records of Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley.

Meanwhile, Arun Jaitley has said his party will challenge the Centre’s approval for a Commission of Inquiry as it violates the federal structure of the Constitution.

About the commission

In online media, this commission formed by Congress-led UPA government is popularly described as Chinese version of original commission that has been formed already by Gujarat government to probe the same within the limits of Gujarat. BJP leader Arun Jaitley has clearly stated that proposed commission by centre is fit to be challenged legally.
