SMC plans rental homes scheme, city beautification cell

Surat Municipal Commissioner on Tuesday presented draft budget for year 2014-15. Presented below are some of the highlights of the budget.

-Construction of 2,000 houses under a new ‘rental housing scheme’. Poor migrant who arrive in Surat, but can’t purchase home will take flats on rent. This will prevent spread of new slum units. A scheme for builders to construct housing in slum area on public private partnership model. Rs. 250 crore allotment for affordable housing.

-Formation of City Beautification Cell. Rs. 10 crore allotment in draft budget for this year, but more allocation in next years.

-Wi Fi facility in SMC’s main office and two zone offices.

-Surat city Wi Fi project on experiment basis.

-City Disaster Center.

-Research work through Urban Health Climate Resilience Center(UHCRC)

-Purchase of fire entry suits.

-180 more bed at SMIMER hospital.

-Animal hostel for stray cattle.

-Air quality monitoring and research through Chamber of Commerce.

-70 meter hydraulic platform to control fire in high-rise buildings.

-16 more bridges and over bridges at Navsari bajar road, Ved road, Gurukul circle, Puna Yogi chowk, and 7 khaadi bridges.

-Over 30% budget on development works to be spent for housing and BRTS project.

-polymeric and micro-surface roads.

-Outdoor stadium(SMC already owns indoor stadium)
