Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today asked the Central Government to bring back to India early the body of fisherman Bhikhubhai Shial, who died in Pakistani jail in suspicious condition on December 19 last. He also asked the Centre to institute a thorough inquiry into the cause of the death.
The fisherman who hailed from Garal village of Una taluka in Somnathg-Gir district was picked up by Pakistani Marine off the Saurashtra coast and put him behind the bars in October last.
While the Pakistani authorities informed the bereaved family in Gujarat about the death and expressed keenness to send the body for last rites but, Mr. Modi regretted that the Centre cared a hoot about the whole issue in a most sloppy manner.
The Chief Minister came to know about the Centre’s lackadaisical attitude from the late fisherman’s daughter Bhavika’s poignant letter written to him. The fisherman’s premature death has left his 12-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son destitutes.
