Narendra Modi in Assam

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today addressed a rally in Assam. He questioned Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh’s contribution to Assam from where he is elected for last 23 years. Modi expressed pleasure over BJP’s success to create such a situation that Congress leaders have to remember Sardar Patel nowadays.

Modi started his speech recalling how he had worked in Assam for the party organization which is known to many journalist friends here.

Modi paid homage to all those who gave their lives in the creation of Assam. He remembered Gopinath Bordoloi who worked shoulder to shoulder with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Modi said Gopinathji should have got the Bharat Ratna long ago, but it was Atalji whose govt conferred the Bharat Ratna to him.

Modi said the ideas of Congress people are very small. Their vision is narrow and limited. They never remembered Sardar Patel and nor did they remember Gopinathji.

Congressmen ask Modiji you are from RSS and BJP, but you are building the statue of Sardar Patel? For them Sardar could be a leader of one party, but for us he is the leader of entire nation. Congress leaders will not understand how we feel for Sardar Patel. Even those who don’t want to remember Sardar Patel have to take his name. This is our success – we have made you remember him.

-When I come to Assam I have a concern. Here is such a rich land, but there’s poverty here. Who is responsible for this? You all know very well. Why do you tolerate them? Were you waiting for something? (people shout Modi)

-This land has tea and timber. And you know my special relation with tea. I used to boil tea patti of Assam to cater tea to people.

-This is a peace loving land but who spilled blood here? We lost so many youngsters. Why?

-Prime Minister of this nation is elected from Assam and that too for 23 years. You made such a big investment, but what did you get? Even if our small karyakarta was in Rajya Sabha for 23 years, he or she would have changed the face of Assam, and here is a PM.

-Do Congres leaders consider this nation as their private property? When land is to be given, people should be consulted.

Modi also covered black money, river Bramputra water for Guwahati, poverty, unemployment and other issues in his speech.
