Ahmedabad, 13 February 2014
American Ambassador to India Nancy Powell arrived at Ahmedabad airport on Wednesday evening. She moved to a five-star hotel in western part of Ahmedabad from airport.
Ambassador Powell is scheduled to meet Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP/NDA’s prime ministerial candidate Shri Narendra Modi at around 10.00 am in capital Gandhinagar. The meeting is expected to be around one hour long.
Soon after the meeting Shri Modi will fly to Ambaji town in north Gujarat located on border of Rajasthan to dedicate 51 Shakti peeth replica and other development projects.
Nancy Powell will continue to stay in Ahmedabad and may visit(unconfirmed) Adalaj stepwell, Mount Carmel school, SEWA, other NGOs and places. Powell and Modi may take dinner together in presence of other senior government functionaries on same day, however there is no confirmation on this.
While Mumbai based counsel general of America visits Gujarat occasionally, the visit of Delhi based main ambassador is rare. Last time outgoing US ambassador to India Timothy Roven had paid visit to Ahmedabad in year 2011.
