Kodnani gets further relief from SC

New Delhi, 17 February 2014

The interim bail of 2002 Naroda Patiya massacre case convict Maya Kodnani, who had been sentenced to 28 years’ imprisonment, has been extended by one week by Supreme Court following her burn injury.

The Supreme Court, while extending the bail, has asked the former Gujarat minister to produce a medical certificate of her burn injuries. She had sought extension of bail by 180 days in the Gujarat High Court.

Kodnani is represented by senior advocate Ram Jethmalani in this case.

Kodnani had filed the petition challenging the February 8 order of the Gujarat High Court declining to extend her three months temporary bail granted on medical grounds on November 12 last year.

The trial court had in August 2012 sentenced her to 26-year life imprisonment.
