Gandhinagar, 24 February 2014
Update: Arjun Modhwadia, Shankersinh and around 400 Congress workers detained while trying to march to assembly complex
Gujarat Congress is holding a public meeting against high Value Added Tax on fuel and chemical fertilizer. The public meeting has been organized in Gandhinagar at Gh-6 Chhavni. Party has been permitted to hold only public meeting but not rally(march).
Every time when assembly is in session, Gujarat Congress organizes a public meeting in Gandhinagar and at the end of the meeting party leaders ask cadre to walk towards the assembly complex which is not permitted. This attracts detention of Congress leaders and workers which provides them a good photo/video opportunity and subsequent media coverage. Gandhinagar police has ensured proper fencing around the ground where Congress meeting is to be held. Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s skill development initiatives related event has been organized at Mahatma Mandir. Police has deployed enough force to ensure that Congress workers don’t reach either closer to assembly complex or Modi’s Mahatma Mandir event.
