Gandhinagar, 24 February 2014

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today called on Ayurvedic Acharya (Ayurvedic Experts) and Ayurvedic Chikitsak (Ayurvedi Doctors) to establish the prowess of the centuries-old Ayurveda medical system at the global level to set up a health society not just within India but at the whole world.

Mr Modi was speaking at the inaugural function of the National Ayurvedic Summit held at Mahatma Mandir here this morning. The Summit was jointly organized by the Health Department of the Gujarat Government and Gujarat Ayurveda University. It was attended by the Ayurvedic Acharyas and Ayurvedic-Chikitsaks who had arrived here from every nook and corner of the country.

Proudly recalling the Gujarat’s connection with the glorious history of the Ayurda: the greatest Ayurvedacharya Dhanvantari, accordingly to a larger belief, in the ancient time Dhanvantari had invented the Ayurvedic medical system, had breathed his last at Dhanej, where his shrine is built, in Somnath district of Gujarat, and Aaro (river-bank) of Vaidhraj Ashwinikumar, who according to Hindu mythology was an ayurvedic doctor for the Gods and Goddesses of heaven, is also located on Tapi river Mr Modi lamented that “We ourseleves are not respecting

our glorious heritages. Our long slavery period has changed our mind-set to adopt callous attitude towards our great traditions and heritages. We have failed to showcase the pride and mightiness of the Ayurveda before the world.”

The effectiveness of the Ayurvedic treatment is largely depending upon two, Mr Modi said and described it further saying that “Firstly, Ayurvedic Chikitsak himself should have a confidence in the Ayurveda; and secondly the patient himself should also have a total faith and trust on it.”

Citing the example of Mahatma Gandhiji who despite of just clad in a single cloth (Dhoti), had impressed the world’s stalwarts with his mighty personality, Mr Modi stated that “Just like him (Gandhiji), we have to present the Indian Ayurveda system with a great confidence before the world to establish its strengths and mightiness.”

The Chief Minister said, “A model ayurveda college is being built at Kolvda near state capital Gandhinagar at a cost of Rs 150-Cr. Ayurveda is not just a medical system but it is a holistic healthy living life-style.”

“In modern world, today’s living style can be described in 3-words – ‘HURRY, WORRY & CURRY’ –, but, for a balance life-style we must give priority to our Ayurveda, Eating and Thinking habits.,” Mr Modi further emphasized.

“The herbal plants of the Himalayan region can be our counter answer to Chinese Herbal medicines that has conquered the world health market, but, have not done anything in that direction. In many countries of the world, ayurveda is spreading its impact, but, we are not putting any efforts to be a partner in that,” Mr Modi lamented. He added that there is the Electro Cardio Gram (ECG) for heart diseases and in aayurveda there has been developed a new technology which is tridosh based therapy called ETG (Electro Tridosh Gram).

“Now, the diseases in a human body could be treated by studying the aura circle around a human body and even the modern science has accepted the aura circle now,’’ he said. He emphasized why we’re still not active in digitization and intellectual property rights-patents of our aayurveda scriptures’ researches and regarding this, he furthered raised some questions. According to the founder of Patanjali Yoga Vidyapith and Yoga-guru Baba Ramdev this National Aayurveda Summit organized in Gujarat shall establish the prestige of traditional aayurveda therapy for protecting health in these changing waves of the world.

Baba Ramdevji in his impressive style said that along with the glory of modern medical sciences, there are the ancient therapies such as yoga-vidhya and aayurveda-yunani-homoeopathic which are equally essential for healthy life and with our endevours India should make the world understand that they are all accepted.
