Ahmedabad, 22 March 2014
Congress MLA Gyasuddin Shaikh has openly protested party’s decision to give ticket to Ishwar Makwana on Ahmedabad(West) seat.
Shaikh told media, “Six MLAs who recently left Congress were originally from BJP, but Congress hasn’t learnt any lesson. Congress has fielded Ishwar Makwana on Ahmedabad(West) seat. Ishwar Makwana is originally from BJP. Then why party has given him ticket?”
He further said, “Ishwar Makwana is from Mehsana. He has nothing to do with the areas under Ahmedabad(West) constituency. There’s no reason why he has been fielded by party here.”
Shaikh further said, “Ishwarbhai was even not mentioned in three-name panel prepared by party.”
He said when Congress already has strong Dalit leaders here in Ahmedabad itself, what was the need to import such candidates.
“Both Priyadarshi(retired IPS) and Valera(retired IAS) are very learned and dedicated leaders. We have suggested their names for Ahmedabad West seat. However, since it didn’t happen, I expressed my dissatisfaction to the high command,” he said.
It has to be mentioned that Ahmedabad(West) seat is reserved for Scheduled Caste candidate. Shaikh’s Muslims dominated assembly seat Dariapur is part of Ahmedabad(West) Lok Sabha seat. In 2009 elections, Congress candidate Shailesh Parmar received 8000+ lead in Dariapur. In fact Dariapur, Jamalpur and Danilimda were three assembly segments where Congress got lead over rival BJP candidate. BJP candidate won because of even better margin in Maninagar, Amraiwadi, Asarwa and Ellis bridge assembly seat areas.
