Ahmedabad, 31 March 2014
Smriti Irani will be the second Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat who will contest the Lok Sabha election. The other Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat contesting the poll is leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Shri Arun Jaitley.
While Smriti Irani has been chosen by party to contest the Lok Sabha election in Amethi(Uttar Pradesh) against Congress vice president and undeclared prime ministerial candidate Rahul Gandhi, Shri Arun Jaitley is contesting from Amritsar seat in Punjab against former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.
Shri Arun Jaitley is most likely to win the Lok Sabha poll, and in that case he will vacate his Rajya Sabha seat. This will attract by-election, and BJP and Modi will be in capacity to send someone to Rajya Sabha from Gujarat. For Smriti Irani, it is not easy as easy as Arun Jaitley to win Amethi. But if she delivers surprise, Gujarat will witness by-election of two Rajya Sabha seats.
