Junagadh, 5 April 2014
Congress today changed its candidate on Junagadh Lok Sabha seat. Party had earlier fielded Talala MLA Jasu Dhana Barad. He has been now replaced with Una MLA Punjabhai Vansh.
Punjabhai Vansh belongs to Koli community. He will contest against BJP’s Rajesh Chudasama who also belongs to Koli community.
Congress insiders say the party had to change its candidate in attempt to balance the Koli vote factor. Talala MLA Mr. Barad was perfect candidate if BJP had fielded another Barad, former MLA of Somnath on this seat. However, BJP surprised everyone by fielding Mangrol MLA Chudasama on Junagadh Lok Sabha seat. Chudasama belongs to Koli community while Barad belongs to non-Koli community. As party felt that fielding Koli community candidate would be more appropriate, the non-Koli community candidate was replaced with Koli candidate.
