About Anadabawa

Shri Anada was born in Samvat 1729 in Dhoraji in Soni family. Instead of getting involved in family’s work, he used to bring Sadhu, saints to home. When family made attempt to marry him, he left home and moved to Girnar hill. He was just 16-17 at that time.He sold his ring and went on journey. He would just consume chana and mamra on the way. He explored Porbandar, harshad, Pindara. He performed ‘tapa‘ near Siddhnath Mahadev in Dwarka on sea shore. Later he came to Jamnagar and did some job related to Minaakaari(ornaments). He would keep some earning with him and spend rest of the earning to purchase ‘Daaliyaa‘(a food item made from chickpea). He started ‘Sadavrat‘(free food ) for Sadhus and saints and ran it for 35 years through his own money. One day one guest saint gave him Tulsi Mala and Diksha of Shri Ram Jay Ram Jay Jay Ram mantra and told to continue Sadavrat. The saint told Anadabawa to also offer other food and not just Daaliyaa. He told Anada that he would be known not as Anando but Annad(one who offers Ann). He told Anada to take help from others to run his Sadavrata. Anandabawa then started to seek donation in villages. The village people would donate him jaggery, ghee and anaaj. At the age of 99, in Samvat 1828, on Ashadh Sud 15 Gurupurnima, Anadabawa took samadhi(a living person voluntarily decides to get buried in earth). There’s Anadabawa’s chowro(square) in Jamnagar where his samadhi is located. His Aaras Pahan stone idol and shoes are there. His birth and death anniversary is marked every Ashadh Sudh Poonam – Gurupurnima day.
