On BJP victory in Gujarat

Editor’s note, Ahmedabad, 16 May, 2014

It’s a historic day in political timeline of India. Narendra Modi led BJP has won all 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat. This was the BJP’s target from day one, but noone was taking it too seriously. State BJP election committee head Parshottam Rupala had in his post-poll press statement declared that BJP will win all 26 seats, but his statement was taken as routine political statement.

Political pundits were assessing Gujarat results on the basis of past Lok Sabha poll results. In 2009, Congress won 11 seats. Political pundits were also believing that some major Congress leaders like Bharatsinh Solanki etc just can’t be defeated. Political pundits were also of opinion that some castes like tribals, Muslims, dalits, Thakors etc just can’t vote for BJP.

Modi had in his number of speeches clearly told political pundits that if they go by past results and purely arithmetic, they will prove wrong. Modi had clearly stated that the elections this time are about chemistry and not arithmetic. Ditto same happened.

After the victories in assembly general elections with nearly 2/3rd majority for three times, victories in civic polls, panchayat polls and by-polls, here is another feather on Gujarat BJP’s head. Voters irrespective of their caste, geography, religion have given their support to Modi in Gujarat this time, otherwise such a mega result is not possible.

In Gujarat, BJP’s last biggest score in Lok Sabha elections was 20. There’s no doubt that Gujarati voters have proved pro-Congress and pro-AAP section of media, NGOs, so called intellectuals wrong. Congress has been completely taken for granted by voters. TsuNaMo has completely swallowed the Congress party.

What is expected next is solutions of pending issues of Gujarat in Delhi. It is clear that replacement of once-in-a-century phenomena Narendra Modi is not possible, but a new Chief Minister must be someone whom people love and trust. There’s no space to blame central government anymore. When BJP is ruling party from panchayat to parliament, expectations of people only rise, and on BJP’s part responsibility increases by manifolds.
