By-polls of 1 Lok Sabha,9 assembly seats likely in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, 17 May, 2014

Gujarat will soon witness by-polls on nine assembly seats and (most probably on) one Lok Sabha seat within next six months.

The ruling BJP fielded six MLAs, two ministers and a Chief Minister in recently concluded Lok Sabha polls. As all of them are declared elected now, they shall retain their Lok Sabha seats and resign from assembly, which will invite by-polls that shall be held within six months as per the rule.

The assembly seats to be vacated are:
Maninagar: Narendra Modi(Chief Minister)
Deesa: Liladhar Vaghela(Minister)
Limkheda: Jaswant Bhabhor(Minister)
Matar: Devusinh Chauhan
Mangrol: Rajesh Chudasama
Jamkhambhalia: Poonam Madam
Talaja: Bhartiben Shiyal
Tankara: Mohan Kundaria
Anand: Dilip Patel

Vadodara Lok Sabha seat

Shri Narendra Modi contested from two Lok Sabha seats- Vadodara and Varanasi. He will most probably vacate Vadodara seat. This will attract Lok Sabha by-election there.

Possibility of by-polls on two Rajya Sabha seats is over, as Rajya Sabha MPs from Gujarat Shri Arun Jaitley and smt Smriti Irani both are not elected to Lok Sabha.
