Tuesday: Modi to be elected NDA’s PM candidate, stake claim to form govt

New Delhi, 19 May, 2014

Prime Minister-elect Shri Narendra Modi will attend a meeting of all elected Lok Sabha MPs of National Democratic Alliance(NDA) in Central hall of parliament on Tuesday morning. Shri Modi will be unanimously elected leader of BJP/NDA parliamentary party.

At 2.45 PM Shri Modi will visit President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee and stake claim to form government. As the election commission has already handed over a list of elected MPs to President, and the list shows clear majority of BJP, it’s just formality that President will extend invitation to form government to Narendra Modi led BJP.

Traditionally swearing in ceremony of Prime Minister and his cabinet takes place in Durbar hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan, but BJP has reportedly handed over a list of 3,000 guests for this occasion, and Durbar hall has no capacity to host such a large number of guests. Therefore the oath taking function will be held at Rashtrapati Bhawan forecourt where guests are received.

The last prime minister to take oath outside the Durbar hall was Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 1999.

Preparations like stage, chairs, tent set up etc are going on at present at forecourt. Oath taking function is likely to be held on 24 or 25 May. It should be mentioned that May 24th is auspicious day Ekadashi as per the Hindu calendar.
