Ahmedabad, 20 May, 2014
The BJP today lashed out at the outgoing Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh’s team for resetting and archiving Prime Minister of India’s twitter account @PMOIndia and renaming it as @PMOIndiaArchive just before Mr Modi is to take over.
“The Outgoing team PMOffice has wrongly named Twitter handle of @PMOIndia against laws & accepted global norms of handover of digital assets,” the BJP tweeted.
The party said the account had 1.4 million followers, but they would have to start from scratch because Dr Singh’s account had been archived, instead of being officially handed over.
The new @PMOIndia account has only 2-3,000 followers at present.
The last tweet from the handle @PMOIndiaArchive was on May 18.
Mr Modi has 4.2 million followers on his official twitter account @NarendraModi.
Shri Modi will be sworn in as India’s 14th Prime Minister on Monday.
Isn't @PMOIndia for communication from the Prime Minister's Office? An institutional handle which should continue seamlessly. Surprised!
