Modi’s success is not in today’s development of Gujarat, Modi’s success is in speedy development of Gujarat after Modi. Gujarat Chief Minister and India’s Prime Minister-designate Shri Narendra Modi said this today while speaking at his farewell function held in the Gujarat assembly house.
Modi said person oriented systems can work only for a short term. If there’s feeling of sustained success then ideas are to be institutionalized Systems automatically respond to institutionalized ideas.
Modi pointed out that after independence, in initial years, good institutions were created, but in later years there was a long gap in this direction. After 30-40 years of gap Gujarat took initiative and widened, developed institutional framework.
Modi said he doesn’t believe that everything good has happened under his rule only in recent years in Gujarat, yes scale could be different, and it has been noticed by all.
He said, “I remember when I came here in post-earthquake situation. The responsibility of Gujarat came to me after three years of drought, cyclone and cooperative bank scams. Opposition leader Shankersinh described how many tasks the present government in centre has left uncompleted. I have full faith that, like we pulled out Gujarat from various difficulties, we will also be able to do same nationally.
Modi said: Nation is facing so many crisis, and that’s the fact, but if there are so many problems, there are so many ways of their solution too.
Modi said: It is obvious that as (I am)a Gujarati and people of Gujarat have right over me but it’s national responsibility. I remember, many people think if Gandhi had wished, Sardar could become Prime Minister. I have no historical record, but may people think this way and speak like that. Perhaps Gandhiji could have in his mind that how it would look if he makes fellow Gujarati a PM. So this dilemma is there, but it doesn’t mean that injustice to Gujarat should be allowed. I will try that Gujarat should not face injustice, it should get its right. No corner of country should feel that other part is being given more favor.
In this regard Modi said, that new responsibility expects something else from him. Shankersinh could be his best friend but Shankersinh has to play his role as opposition leader. Gujarat has given us this samskar.
Modi at the end side of his address said: Gujarati will be spoken in PM office, Khaman Dhokla will be eaten, Khakhra market will grow because when a person goes, he takes away many things along with him.
Modi also mentioned a proverb and said: Mosal ma jaman ane maa pirasnari.
