Porbandar, 28 May, 2014
Gujarat Congress president Arjun Modhwadia and his brother Ramdevbhai Modhwadia have removed a cabin set up for their security guards.
Modhwadia was in January issued notice by the State High Court in connection with a public interest litigation (PIL) that alleged that Modhwadia had intruded upon a public road in Porbandar city causing inconvenience to the residents. Modhwadias have removed the cabin voluntarily before the next date of hearing in the High Court.
The PIL was filed by Prakash Unadkat who is a resident of Porbander. According to the petitioner’s lawyer – Pranav Dave, “Modhwadia and his brother, Ramdevbhai, encroached upon a public road in Porbandar outside their residence by constructing a structure for their personal security personnel. The Chief Officer of Porbandar Nagarpalika had, in November 2013, given notice to remove the encroachment. However, the authorities failed to remove the encroachment. And so, we moved the PIL.”
Reacting to this in January Modhwadia had said that he was provided Y category security and cabin was set up to provide cover against heat and rain to security guards on government land due to request by District Superintendent of Police, Porbandar.
