Gujarat CM asks officers to hold ‘Chintan Shibir’ at district and taluka level from this year

Gandhinagar, 30 May, 2014

Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today called for extending the scope, objectives and geographical reach of the annual state-level officers’ ‘Chintan Shibir’ and holding the camps at district and taluka levels too, from this year.

Presiding over a high-level officers’ review meeting here, she said that Chintan Shibirs being held in Gujarat for the past several years should incorporate new ideas, new programmes to make them more effective. She said these camps should invite suggestions and possible solutions form the people, discuss threadbare the people’s problems under different sub-groups, and develop an inbuilt framework to redress the people’s grievances. She said the objective is to overhaul administrative machinery, improve work culture and make them people-friendly.

Mrs. Patel also suggested instituting awards and prizes for district and taluke-level ‘best officers’, just like there are state-level prizes for ‘best collectors’ and ‘best district development officers’ so far awarded at the state-level Chintan Shibirs. This should create a healthy competition among officers, sensitise them to people’s problems with an urge to find effective solutions.

She exuded confidence that this initiative would encourage efficient officers at the district and taluka levels to work with the same zeal of ‘one-team, one-vision and one-mission’, as per the spirit of ‘Swantah Sukhay’ project with which the officers compete at the state level.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Dr Varesh Sinha, Chief Minister’s Additional Chief Secretary K. Kailashnathan, General Administration Department Principal Secretary K. Srnivas and Secretary Dhananjay Dwivedi, among others.
