Surat, 31 May, 2014
Update: The court has denied permission to hold Honey Singh musical night. The show is canceled. Refund from 10 June.
Last year, Vadodara district rural police had refused to permit singer Honey Singh to perform following protest against lewd lyrics of song sung by Singh. This year, Surat Police has denied permission to Honey Singh’s event scheduled on 31 May. The Police Commissioner denied permission to Honey Singh’s musical night a day before scheduled date of event. The organizers have challenged Police Commissioner’s decision in the High Court. Those having pass are asked to contact the organizers in the afternoon to know about whether the event is going to take place or not.
It should be mentioned here that a case was registered against Singh under provisions of Section 294 (singing, reciting or uttering any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place) of the Indian Penal Code in Punjab’s Nawanshahr district in the past. Several sections of society oppose Honey Singh’s event for vulgar content of lyrics.
