Junagadh, 16 June, 2014
Junagadh district BJP President Kanubhai Bhalala has submitted his resignation to party general secretary Vijay Rupani. Bhalala has resigned following defeat of BJP candidate and former Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel’s son Bharat Patel on Visavdar assembly seat.
By-poll on Visavdar seat was held with the Lok Sabha general elections, following sitting MLA Keshubhai Patel’s resignation. BJP fielded Keshubhai Patel’s son Bharat Patel, but the decision was disliked by local cadre of BJP in Visavdar. Bharat Patel complained from day-one that local BJP leadership including Mr. Bhalala and his supporters were inactive, and not doing any effort to ensure his victory.
Finally, as expected Congress candidate won on this seat.
Gujarat BJP has recently constituted a disciplinary committee to take actions against those partymen who worked against party during last Lok Sabha polls. BJP won all 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat but in 17 of 182 assembly segments Congress was ahead of BJP. This includes poll(by-poll)-bound assembly seats of Mandvi(south Gujarat), Visavdar(Junagadh district) and Abdasa(Kutch) which BJP lost against Congress.
While by-polls for nine more assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat(Vadodara) are going to take place in next six months, the party wants to convey clear message that any kind of anti-party activity during election time will not be tolerated. Kanubhai’s resignation is first news in this connection.
