New Delhi, 4 July, 2014
Food and Civil Supply minister of Gujarat Shri Bhupendrasinh Chudasama has demanded price stabilization fund for states to control the prices of onion, potatoes etc. He said if centre gives such fund, the states also should contribute to it.
Chudasama put this demand during a meeting with union food and civil supply minister Ramvilas Paswan.
Chudasama said, 35% wastage of vegetables, fruits etc has to be prevented. He said, states need to procure food items before their prices increase. This can help to control price rise, but states need fund for this.
He said export of onion and potatoes should be stopped to control its prices. When need arises, the option of import from Holland and China should be explored.
Chudasama said the solution of inflation has to be thought in long-term manner, and temporary measures should be avoided. He said the central government is going ahead in direction of permanent solutions.
