Gujarat BJP MPs meet Union Agriculture Minister: Crop insurance forms to be available offline, premium reduced

Gandhinagar, 24 July 2014

According to Bhavnagar BJP MP Bhartiben Shiyal, a group of BJP MPs from Saurashtra today made representation before union Agriculture Minister Radhamohan Singh in Delhi to seek relief in premium of crops insurance scheme for farmers in Gujarat. The delegation also demanded reintroduction of traditional offline system of registration of forms for insurance scheme.

The minister accepted the demands, as a result of which existing 17.50% premium has been reduced to 8.50% according to Shiyal.

At the same time, the other demand on offline form registration has also been accepted and therefore, while online registration system will continue to exist, the traditional offline registration system will also be reintroduced.

According to Shiyal, during the NDA government, the rate of premium was 7.50% which was raised by UPA government upto 11.50%. Now it has been reduced to 8.5% again.

State Agriculture Minister Babubhai Bokhiria couldn’t be reached for his reaction.
