Ahmedabad, 7 September 2014
Lately Indian Railway seems taking some professional decisions firmly.
Railway department has canceled stoppages of Rajdhani and Agra Fort trains at Mahesana and Palanpur in north Gujarat on Ahmedabad-New Delhi direction. Not only this, but ticket booking for both these trains has also stopped in Mahesana and Palanpur.
Stoppage at Mahesana and Palanpur was canceled in the past too, but due to political pressure the decision was reversed.
The decision will be effective from 1st October.
The decision doesn’t affect journey in Rajdhani Express in New Delhi-Ahmedabad direction. However in the case of Agra Fort train, halts at Mahesana and Palanpur railway stations are canceled in both directions.
Indian Railways has also canceled stoppage of Bikaner-Kochuveli train at Palanpur railway station. This train halts at Palanpur railway station once in a week.
It is not that professional decision means snatching away something.
Look at the example of Vapi. Contrary to Palanpur and Mahesana, Vapi in south Gujarat is happier because it is going to get stoppages of seven new trains. This includes Trivandrum, Nizamuddin weekly, Bandra Terminus, Kanpur weekly, Bandra Lucknow weekly, Pune, Nizamuddin weekly, Palitana weekly, Jaipur weekly, Maisur, Ahmedabad by weekly express trains.
It should be mentioned that Vapi is highest revenue earning station fo Western Railway after Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara. In last financial year, Vapi contributed Rs. 125 crore to Western Railway’s revenue.
