Ahmedabad, 30 September 2014
36-year-old Ramesh Powar, the former India and Mumbai offspinner, has signed a deal with Gujarat Cricket Association(GCA). He will pass his experience to the younger players and help junior offspinners of Gujarat for the forthcoming domestic season. Powar has played 31 ODIs and two Tests for India.
Powar represented Maharashtra from 1999-2000 until 2013. Ahead of the 2013-14 season, he shifted to Rajasthan on a two-year contract.
With Rajasthan having been booted out of all domestic competitions in the 2014-1 season following a legal tussle between the Rajasthan Cricket Association and the BCCI, Powar had obtained an NOC from the Indian board to leave the state team. His approval to join Gujarat was pending approval from Gujarat Cricket Association president Amit Shah, and now that it has been cleared the veteran is free for selection.
