Ahmedabad police has detained a beggar who claims he had found an unattended bag with Rs. 52.47 lakh currency notes inside at Kohapur railway station and was enjoying improved lifestyle. With some ‘treatment’ given, police has come to conclusion that bag in question could be lifted from the train by suspect who is under detention.
City’s Vatva police arrested a beggar in Narol area of city. Beggar Sanjay Singh told police that he lives at Kolhapur railway station in Maharashtra. Two days back he entered into a train, where he found an unattended bag under the seat. The bag was too heavy. When he opened it, he found just dresses, but under the cloths there were bundles of currency notes worth Rs. 52.47 lakh. He kept a bag with him and dressed the cloths found from the bag. He first went to Mumbai and later came to Ahmedabad via Volvo bus. At entrance of Ahmedabad when he left the bus, local police was in patrolling.
When policemen stopped him and checked his bag, they were surprised to find cash of over Rs. 50 lakh. Sanjay Singh was detained and taken to police station.
Police has informed Income Tax department about this cash, as bundles have bank tags attached.
Author’s note: It is possible that the beggar got hold of a bag belonging to some politician and Rs. 50 lakh sum was meant for election by some candidate. There has been no complaint filed regarding the loss of this bag at Kolhapur. Generally when unaccounted/black money is stolen, victim stays away from filing complaint.
