Gujarat Congress has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare ‘tea’ as national drink of India.
According to a release issued by the Gujarat Congress, party’s state general secretary Nitin Shah has in a letter to Prime Minister said that in the world, tea is highest consumed liquid after water.
Shah in his letter to Modi said that India earns revenue of over Rs. 4500 crore through export of tea. India’s over 80% people drink tea.
Shah in a letter to Modi reminded Modi that he had in his campaign highlighted the fact that he was into selling of tea.
He said it is his personal feeling that tea can become Asian continent’s drink!
Author’s note: Gujarat Congress continues to give us surprises. This demand made before the Prime Minister is latest in this series! Very few people know that Sardar Patel was against tea. He had in his speeches asked people not to consume tea. Then if it is about declaring something as national drink, why not buttermilk?
