It’s just one case that has been exposed. It indicates deep rooted corruption at police station level. It also indicates corruption connected to festival of Diwali which is not new for those who have some exposure of police stations.
1. Police Inspector wanted TV in Diwali gift from his constable.
2. Constable trapped a person and demanded TV set.
3. Accused contacted Anti Corruption Bureau(ACB), constable faced arrest, Inspector is allover in local press attracting fame on negative side.
Amroli based Vihatbhai Bhagwanbhai Rabari had filed complaint in ACB against Amroli police station staff for demanding bribe. As per Vihatbhai he had sold his Swift Desire car to a person. However the buyer just paid token ammount and not full amount. Rabari therefore took his car back. An application was filed in this regard against Rabari, investigation of which was assigned to head constable Babubhai and Mehboob Ali. Rabari too had filed counter application.
Amroli police inspector KG Limbachiya asked head constable Babubhai and Mehboob Ali to gift him LED TV on Diwali. Head constables had to manage this gift somehow to make their boss happy.
Both constables called Vihatbhai and assured him that though an application was received by police against him, no case would be filed if he is ready to give desired TV set which has been demanded by inspector as Diwali gift from lower staff. If he denies this offer, police is in capacity to file complaint against him. Not only this but the car will also be treated as disputed and will be seized.
Police men took Rabari to electronics showroom to purchase TV set. Inspector Limbachiya had selected a particular model of Samsung TV which was costing Rs. 46,000.
Pressed by cops, Rabari paid Rs. 6,000 as frontal booking amount to showroom. Later constable was demanding Rs. 40,000 for delivery of TV. As Rabari didn’t want to pay bribe, he contacted ACB.
ACB staffer AU Jadeja, LB Zala and VD Patil recorded policeman’s telephone conversation with Rabari and trapped them on Thursday evening when Rabari was called to police station to pay Rs. 40,000 bribe for TV set. Babubhai received bribe money following which Mehboob Ali went to police inspector’s office with Rabari. ACB has arrested two constables, while investigation against Inspector was on till late in the night.
