Ahmedabad, 28 October 2014
Indian Meteorological Department(IMD) has changed its forecast on Nilofar cyclone.
IMD, Ahmedabad office today said that Nilofar which is very severe cyclone at present, would further weaken and make landfall as Cyclonic storm(and not very severe cyclone).
Manorama Mohanty, deputy director of IMD Ahmedabad office further said that wind speed will be in range of 80-90 km/hour during landfall(highest 100 km/hour).
She said coastal Saurashtra and Kutch region and parts of mainland Gujarat will witness heavy rain on 1st November.
It should be mentioned that yesterday evening, Ms Manorama Mohanty had said that Nilofar will strike Gujarat coast on 31st morning in range of 100-110 km/hour wind speed(highest 125 km/hour) and showers will begin from 30th November.
When asked about changed version within few hours, Ms. Mohanti said that Nilofar is moving very slowly and therefore today’s forecast is different.
It should be mentioned that contrary to Hudhud, IMD has been clueless about exact path, time and intensity of Nilofar cyclone. US Naval Observatory had hours before predicted landfall of Nilofar storm on 1 November at Kutch/Karachi coast, but IMD was clueless even on exact date of landfall.
