Collector of Gir Somnath district has asked visitors to cancel their visit to Somnath for now due to possibility of landfall of Nilofar cyclone at Gujarat coast. District collector has moved teams to contact visitors who are already in Somnath to convey them that it is advisable that they leave the town. Similar requests are also made by district collector of Devbhumi Dwarka district.
In another development, Gir Somnath district collector has asked big industrial units in district to shut down for two days in view of upcoming cyclone which is presently located at over 1,000 km distance in Arabian sea. On Bhavnagar district Collector’s directive, Alang Sosiya ship-breaking yard has taken a decision to shut down the yard for two days on 30-31 October. Decision on reopening will be taken after reviewing the situation on 1st November.
It should be mentioned that though businesses have reopened after Diwali today on Labhpancham day, the schools and colleges across Gujarat are still observing Diwali vacation. Like every year, domestic tourism is on boom in coastal Gujarat in districts like Kutch, Junagadh, Devbhumi Dwarka and Porbandar. Now when cyclone is approaching, tourists are cut shorting their tours.
